HELLO
My name is Fatma. I’m an Istanbul-based illustrator and a fashion designer.
My strong passion for art first showed itself at a very early age. I was drawing before I was talking.
I remember myself drawing cute little girls in elaborately designed garments when I was 12. This led me to study fashion design at FIT in New York and ITU in Istanbul. After graduating in 2012, I worked for several fashion companies and realized that illustrating was the part I enjoyed the most.
Over the years, I have experimented with various styles and techniques, including fashion illustrations, cartoons, surrealist paintings, and different materials like watercolor, markers, pencils, and crayons. Now, I am mainly focused on digital media.
My artistic passions expanded to include children’s book illustrations. I took numerous courses on a wide variety of topics. I thrive on depicting stories and using composition to lead the eye through sequence of images. I’m into cinematic perspectives as well as using color and light to arouse emotions.
When I’m not drawing on my tablet, you can find me enjoying the outdoors, gathering inspiration from the world around me, and watching fascinating underwater documentaries with my 7-year-old son.
I get inspiration from my curious son and my lovely mischievous nephews. I love being around kids and am amazed by how they process things, their conversations, behaviors, and interests. I’m a dog person, but I enjoy illustrating playful, cute cats.
I love to illustrate stories full of humor and enjoy adding little fun details in the backgrounds for people to discover on their own. If they find it, it’s a joy!
